The Shannon Insurance Co. is located in Portland, Tennessee and is one of the primary insurers in the area. It has been in the business since 1939 and has established itself as one of the strongest players in the insurance industry. The insurer started with 50 policies with Hartford Insurance and was located at Main Street in Portland, Tennessee in a second floor office.
The insurance agency continued to grow during the 1950s and members of the Shannon family assisted in running the operation. By the early 1960s, the firm was being run by brothers Robert and Doug, a partnership that lasted until 1980 when Doug purchased the agency from his brother Robert. Doug Shannon run the agency until the Farmers Bank acquired the business in June 2000. Eventually, the firm was sold to Paul Fuqua in 2005.
The firm continues to operate as one of the top insurers in the Tennessee area; offering various products to several sectors and representing numerous high profile companies. Shannon’s personal insurance services include policies covering automobile, homeowners, renters, motorcycle, recreational vehicle and boat.
