Motorcycle Hire Insurance Only

If you don’t own your own bike, but you want to rent one for the day or the weekend, you will need motorcycle hire insurance only. This insurance is typically available through insurance companies that insure motorcycles, and in many cases, it is provided by the rental company and included in the rental fee. The cost of this insurance is usually minimal, but certain requirements must be met.

First, the insurance coverage must meet the minimum requirements for the state. Most motorcycle hire insurance only policies will meet the requirements and usually cover liability, property damage, comprehensive, and collision. The policies usually cover bodily injury in the amounts that are required by the state, but additional coverage may be available.

This type of insurance usually runs about $20 per day for each day that the bike is rented if it is purchased as part of the rental agreement. It can cost even more if you obtain this insurance through a private insurance company. The rental companies, such as Harley Davidson Motorcycle Rentals, typically get large volume discounts from their insurance companies. Read the policy carefully, however! You may not be covered if you an accident results from your negligence!

Not all rental companies offer it, but optional insurance may be purchased as well. The optional insurance is usually quite high, however, and if you are covered automatically on other policies that you might have through private insurance companies, you are probably better off declining the optional insurance coverage. You should note that the insurance that covers a rental bike will not cover any other vehicle or motorcycle that you are driving, and it will not cover you if someone is driving the bike that is not authorized to do so on the rental agreement.

Renting a motorcycle is easy. Harley Davidson only requires you to have a motorcycle endorsement on your driver’s license. The license can be from any state or country. You must be at least twenty five years of age, have a major credit card, and put up a security deposit, which is typically around five hundred dollars. Of course, you also need the motorcycle hire insurance only as well!
